What is Long-Term Care? Long-term care refers to the housing and care people need beyond a hospital stay if they are incapacitated by illness or injury. It is a multi-disciplinary field involving health care, insurance, law, and financial planning. It requires knowledgeable professionals who can interact with each other to provide the best care for the patient/client. Long-term care insurance is one of several vehicles used to pay for th8is expensive are,. In fact, in most cases it is the best method available to protect a family's assets -- those set aside for other purposes like retirement, education of children, savings, and more. How are Families Impacted? In one sense, long-term care has little to do with you. Yes, you will receive the care, but the- impact on your family and friends may long outlive you.
